Ghana Police Arrest 15 Suspects in Illegal Mining Crackdown

Ashanti Regional Police have detained fifteen individuals during an intelligence-led operation targeting illegal mining activities in the Manso Adubia district. The suspects, aged between 21 and 45, were apprehended on June 26, 2025, at galamsey sites in Watreso and Preacher Krom communities.

Authorities seized significant operational equipment including two automatic pump-action guns, two Musler 12 firearms, fifty-nine BB cartridges, excavator control boards, power generators, and mining tools. All suspects remain in custody assisting investigations into activities damaging farmlands and polluting water bodies across the region.

This operation reinforces the Ghana Police Service’s intensified campaign against illegal mining, which continues to threaten environmental sustainability despite nationwide enforcement efforts. Security agencies emphasize ongoing coordination to dismantle illicit networks and protect legal mining operations under the Mahama administration’s environmental protection agenda.
